National Trappers Association Membership
The National Trapper's Association, Incorporated, is an organization of dedicated individuals who have joined together to promote and protect the appropriate conservative use of many of our furbearing species. The NTA was established in 1959, when a small group of trappers met in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to form a defense against legislative bills designed to ban the harvest of our annual surplus of animals. A threat to a heritage, a way of life, and the best interests of wildlife has since attracted many people, from all walks of life, to build upon the humble foundation to encourage conservation in its purest form - "Wise Use".

The NTA constitution and by-laws provide a democratic government, with representation by a State Director from each state. Every member has the opportunity to vote for elected officers, and each member also enjoys the opportunity to comment on policies or other issues of concern. An official publication serves the membership as a source of news, information, and interesting articles.
NTA Members Have Every Right to be Proud!

The need to represent sportsmen's interests has grown a great deal in recent years and the National Trappers Association has also grown to meet the challenges. Because we are unified, we are now able to work against efforts to take away our heritage, values and freedoms . The NTA represents American fur harvesters at important wildlife meetings both here and abroad.
One of the NTA's highest priorities is education: Education of the media, education of the public and even education of trappers. Spokespersons for trappers have been trained in every region to take advantage of media oportunities. Printed materials have been developed to help educate the public and the NTA Trapping Handbook meets the needs of virtually every young or novice trapper. The NTA even provides annual scholarship funds to deserving college students.
